"The quality of your work sample is of supreme importance for the promotion of your art. This is true whether you are promoting it yourself or through a gallery, curator, or agent. I can't stress this enough. Remember, the only relationship most viewers will ever have with your art will be through a reproduction of it. You have only a few seconds to impress the panel, juror, curator, art dealer, agent, or web surfer with your work. These are decisive moments!"

...Jackie Battenfield, from The Artist's Guide: How To Make A Living Doing What You Love

Used with permission.

We have been photographing two and three dimensional art for portfolios, books, publications, and artist's and collector's archives for nearly 35 years and have found that what Jackie Battenfield said in her valuable and highly acclaimed book is absolutely true: To get your work noticed, what is most important in those first few seconds is, simply, that it must look better than the rest.

The best representation of your work is one which has no distractions, no glare(for 2D), no formula lighting (for 3D), no discrepancies whatsoever. In fact, that when presenting superior work samples in any field, there is an added implicit professionalism brought to the work.

Phrases like "it's good enough", or "it's a little off" are not a part of how you would describe your actual work, so why should they be part of the work samples that you show to others.

Thanks for stopping by. Please don't hesitate to call or e mail with questions, or if you'd like to schedule an appointment to photograph your work.
